Our goal is to bring justice to individuals who have been wrongfully convicted and to prevent wrongful convictions from happening in the future.

Freeing the Innocent

KIP, Inc directly supports The Kentucky Innocence Project's dedicated work to freeing innocent people who have been wrongfully convicted in the state of Kentucky. Here's what they do:

  • Screen and Investigate Claims: They review hundreds of requests for assistance each year and carefully investigate those that have a credible claim of innocence.
  • Use DNA Testing: When appropriate, they use DNA testing to help prove innocence and secure the release of those who have been wrongly convicted.
  • Provide Legal Representation: They provide pro bono legal representation to individuals seeking to clear their names and gain their freedom.
  • Advocate for Reform: They advocate for reforms to the criminal justice system to prevent future wrongful convictions, such as improving eyewitness identification procedures and reducing the use of junk science.
  • Educate the Public: They educate the public about the causes of wrongful convictions and the need for criminal justice reform.
